How to avoid sharing germs when passing the bong ðŸ¦
Bong rips with friends are the best bong rips!
We all love smoking with our friends, but it’s important to keep our health in mind when sharing a bong, or any piece for that matter! After all, if we aren’t able to stay healthy enough to toke with our buds, we must resort to smoking alone, and that’s just sad for everybody.
So what are some of the best ways to ensure the lowest number of germs are being shared when you’re enjoying a few rips with your friends?
You Keep Your Germs, I'll Keep Mine
First, we should address the issue of how much bacteria is actually shared when we pass the bong.
Even in a freshly clean bong, bacteria is still swapped when sharing. In a dirty bong or a bong with dirty water, the amount of germs increases dramatically. It’s important to keep in mind the more hits taken, the more germs accumulated. Depending on the number of people sharing the piece, this number can vary. The point is you should always assume the amount of bacteria being shared in your bong is much more than you think, because it likely is!
How much you say? Well after taking a sip of water from a cup, there are around 100,000 BACTERIAS found on the rim of the glass with only 50 bacteria found prior to taking that sip. Now a lot of these are your normal neighborly friendly bacteria living in your mouth. However, there are several unfriendly ones that can be passed a long as well. Not trying to stop you from sharing a rip, but here are a few: the common cold, covid, the flu, cold sores, staph infections, and meningitis.
Some people may not care much and are willing to take the risk, but for those with an underlying health condition, this might be a big deal. So we totally get it and there should NEVER be any judgement on those who choose or request to have a clean rip with their buds.
What are the best counter measures to fight off these unneighborly germs?
There are a few ways to reduce the number of germs shared when smoking the bong with your pals.
- It helps to keep an eye on the number of mouths that are going on the mouthpiece before it’s wiped down. It may seem tedious to sanitize the mouthpiece in between every hit, but it is the best way to ensure the lowest number of germs is being shared. Here are some products you can use to wipe down your piece.
- Alternatively, there are a number of products on the market, made of silicone, which act as a buffer between the user’s mouth and the mouthpiece itself. These products greatly reduce the amount of bacteria shared between smoking buds.
- The most important thing, however, is to make sure your bong water is clean. We know sometimes we just need a rip and ignore the fact that water might be a little nasty. However we have seen some SERIOUSLY DIRTY NASTY ASS water being passed between friends and this is just screaming, "Hey lungs and overall health, go F yourself!" So literally the easiest thing you can do to control those germ, is to just clean your bong water after your sesh. That simple.
